New Works Erected in Record Time
A lot has happened at the site of the new works in Teningen since the official ground-breaking on 21st April 2006. In just three months of construction time, the work on the three halls for material stockpiling, production and assembly has almost been completed. The area covered by the completed halls comprises a total of 7,500 square metres. In parallel to the completion of these halls, further two halls are currently emerging for storage and logistics with an area of 4,000 square metres.
The preparations on the 120,000 square metre-site began in October 2005. The woods bordering the Otto Graf GmbH site had to make way for the new buildings and this has been compensated by generous measures. However, no buildings of the planned dimensions could be erected on the soft forest soil. As a result, 50,000 cubic metres of forest soil and roots had to be removed and a further 80,000 cubic metres of filling material was delivered and compacted. This corresponds to around 9,000 lorry loads between November and July, or up to 100 lorries a day! The vibrations from compacting the earth mass could also be felt over great distances. The area currently strengthened amounts to 80,000 square metres. Further storage areas will be added in 2007.
Once the subsurface had been prepared, work could begin on erecting the buildings. Cranes were assembled, mighty steel reinforcements and formwork were prepared for the foundations. In total, 7,000 cubic metres of concrete and 900 tonnes of steel have so far been used. This is supplemented by precast concrete parts with a total weight of around 1,500 tonnes. Up to 184 construction workers and 24 machines were on site at peak times. The construction stages have so far run like clockwork thanks to outstanding site management.
The buildings’ key data are also impressive: the buildings’ total area after completion amounts to approx. 11,500 square metres. The halls are 15 metres high; 10 metres in the storage and logistics areas. The complex of five halls will be completed by the end of October. This results in a construction time of precisely six months.
It is mainly new products that will be made at the new production site, such as a new tank series for rainwater harvesting and products for new business areas. Thanks to a high level of automation, the company will also be able to offer the products at competitive prices in the long-term. The start of the production is planned for the end of 2006. The first machine parts will be delivered at the end of September.
