It’s raining beer

With the GRAF Optimax-Pro-Filter

In collaboration with the "5 Seasons" brewery, GRAF customer "RainHarvest Systems" has brewed beer using rainwater in the US. Their efforts were certainly not in vain, as the beer has proved to be a huge success. The quality, taste, purity and softness of the water exceeded all expectations. Environmental concerns have of course generated great interest in the product.

The cleaning processes involved in brewing beer requires huge amounts of water. Many breweries have now recognised the potential of using locally harvested rainwater for this. The "5 Seasons Brewery" system was installed in August 2009. The GRAF Optimax-Pro-Filter features a self-cleaning design for permanently high water quality and a floating suction fitting with fine filter (also from GRAF) removes the water for the brewing process. The water is then sanitised with UV light. The filtered rainwater has a PH of 7.8 and a water hardness of around 0.05 degrees. The water is also totally free from any colouring or odour.

The rainwater used for the brewing process thereby easily fulfils all the standards required by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Beer brewed using rainwater has attracted a lot of media attention in the US, even making it onto CNN.
